Recently I signed up for a daily email newsletter that contains a Bible verse, a little bit about applying that scripture to your daily life, and a prayer related to the scripture.  A friend recommended it, and so far it has been very helpful to me.

I know, I know.  I could get my own daily scripture reading just by taking the Bible down off the shelf.  It’s not even that far.  It right there, within arm's reach.  I don’t even have to get up out of my chair.

But like so many of the things I should be doing everyday—eating right, flossing my teeth—I just don’t seem to get around to it.  So it’s helpful to have a Bible verse just appear in my email every morning.  That way, I actually end up reading a little bit of scripture everyday.

One of these days, it will probably even prompt me to get the Bible down off the shelf for further reading.  Or, more likely, click on over to Bible on the Web and read from there.  Ah, the electronic age.

I don’t think it matters whether I get my daily dose of scripture from a paper copy or an electronic copy of the Bible.  I think it just matters that I get it.  I’m not sure what the recommended daily allowance of scripture is, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t been meeting it.  Hence, the daily dose of scripture in my email.

I am trying to do all the things I am supposed to for good health.  However, I have to be sure to include the necessary ingredients for good spiritual and emotional health in there as well.  Because physical health is not enough.

"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
(Matthew 16:26)
