We are all subject to worry and doubt. It’s part of being human. Sometimes though, negative thoughts take on a life of their own and become a never-ending cacophony that drowns out all else. During those times, it’s hard to act as we should, or to get much of anything done at all. Negative thoughts steal our energy, distract us, and push us in the wrong direction. They waste time, and create a lot of stress.
So, the question becomes: How can we quiet the cycle of worry, criticism and doubt?
Here’s an answer:
“The Lord will keep you in perfect peace if you keep your mind stayed on Him.”
(Isaiah 26:3)
If I focus on God instead of my worries and doubts, then the negative thoughts will die off from lack of attention. If I concentrate on God’s plan for my life, then the noise in my head will quiet enough for me to hear God’s voice. When I remember that all my problems are in God’s hands, my stress fades and I can move on with what I have to do.
I’m not saying it’s easy. But it’s definitely do-able.
And it’s so much easier to get through the day without all that hurtful chatter.
